an African-American from Cincinnati, Ohio. Known for the invention of the first automatic refrigeration system for trucks.

Thomas Elkins — Air Conditioning in Chicago, IL
an African-American from Albany, New York. Thomas patented an “improvement” in refrigeration via the process of cycling a coolant liquid through a large container. He also designed a toilet that had all the modern comforts including a toilet, bookrack, set of cupboards, and an easy chair.

an African-American from Cambridge, Massachusetts. Received a patent for gas burner in 1899. The burner is a heating device that uses natural gas for fuel. Jackson also invented an improved heating apparatus, a matrix drying apparatus, and a steam boiler.
